September Newsletter

With the first day of Fall being Sunday September 22, I thought it appropriate to focus our energy tips news this month on the Root chakra and getting back to your “roots.”  The fall season urges us to return to our roots as many of us journey home for the holidays. It is also a time of transformation and letting go, much like the shedding of leaves from the trees. It’s an excellent time to take care of our root chakra, which supports our entire foundation and roots us to our earth and everything around us.

The root chakra sits at the base of the spine and is the driving force that enables us to get things done. It governs our physical body, our self-preservation, our ability to provide for ourselves and our basic sense of safety, security and belonging in the world. It is responsible for our physical body.

When it is Balanced or Unbalanced

When the root chakra is balanced, you will feel relaxed, calm, grounded, stable, secure and can let go of fear. You have a strong will to live and the practical side of your life functions smoothly because you are dependable, responsible and reliable. Your bills get paid, meals happen on time and occasion cards get sent. You may not have all the money you want but you have enough material resources to meet your needs. You feel supported and feel a sense of connection and safety to the physical world.

When the root chakra is unbalanced you will have issues with groundedness, security, and stability.  You might experience fear, anxiety, uncertainty, and a sense that you’re not at home in your own skin. Emotional imbalances include negative feelings affecting basic survival needs of money, shelter, food and the ability to provide for life’s necessities.

Tips to Balance the Root Chakra and Support Chakra Health
Tips

Here are some things you can do to take care of your root chakra.

  • Walk in nature every day.

  • Walk barefoot in the grass and dig your toes into the dirt or walk on a beach.

  • Get out in your garden and dig in the dirt or plant something in a container.

  • Do strength and endurance building exercises.

  • Do yoga exercises for the root chakra – the tree pose, the chair pose, or the warrior 1 and warrior 2 poses.

  • Get back to your roots with family activities; visit a relative who can tell you stories from the old days.  Learn more about your family tree.

  • Eat root chakra foods including root vegetables such as carrots, parsnips, beets, yams or potatoes. Add red fruits and vegetables to your diet such as tomatoes, strawberries, raspberries, cherries, red apples, peppers, and pomegranates. Make sure you are getting enough protein in your diet.

  • Say root chakra supporting affirmations such as:

    • I am safe.

    • I am secure.

    • The Earth supports and nourishes me.

    • I am financially secure.

    • I am protected in this world.

    • I am exactly where I'm meant to be.
